Our Mission

The CU Denver Undergraduate Design Build course series focuses on the relationship between service learning, international perspectives and architectural intervention. The students will design a functional community building and fundraise monies for materials for the village of Quebrada Ceiba, Puerto Rico . The building, with input from community leaders, will provide a site for The people in the somewhat mountain terrain have no easy access to a grocery store for produce and dry goods. The other part of their issue is that there is no public transportation to a town with access to a grocery store, also a majority of the citizens do not have a car or type of personal motorized transportation. Our goal is to refurbish and transform an existing community structure that is currently siting vacant and unused into a CoOp community store for the sale of groceries, dry goods, and any other products that would feasible to store and sell.

Get Involved

We Need Help - The team of dedicated students that want to go to Puerto

Rico to help build this project are currently on their own to pay for airfare

to and from Puerto Rico. The students also have to pay $3400 in tuition

and fees for the trip as well as being responsible for breakfast and dinner

most days on the trip. The students also are responsible as a group to

raise between $10,000 and $15,000 for the contruction expenses and

materials. This trip and the subsequent class are expensive for students

who are trying to make a difference. We are asking for a donation of a charter flight for 10-14 students and faculty to and from Puerto Rico. (Jan 1-17)

Not only would this reduced the cost to students by aproximately

$600-$1000 each, it would allow the team to bring some small tools and

components that would otherwise have to be shipped or purchased in

Puerto Rico.
